Ted Kennedy and the wife who "saved" him

I watched many hours this week of coverage on the death of Ted Kennedy. To hear of his accomplishments and giving heart was heart warming. Ive always known of him, through the many trials he and his family have endured. I had heard if his wild drinking days after his divorce, even with his kids, and of course, the Palm Beach rape trial of his nephew.

Then he met his wife, Vicki. He fell in love, settled down and became a wise, inspired leader to both his family and his constituents. I heard several times today and yesterday how Vicki "Saved" him. She brought stability, guidance into his life. She saved him from himself. Boy, I thought, imagine how the hard core al-anons must be reacting to hearing that a woman has the ability to save her hard drinking, dysfunctional man!! Why can SHE save him, but WE cant save our drunks?

Not me. I knew better. He must have been ready to change, cus we know that no amount of *love* from a good woman, or man, or child, can change anyone. Ya know the old Al-anon joke

"How many al-anons does it take to change a light bulb?"

Answer: "Just one....but the light bulb has to really want to change."

Ted Kennedy really did change. It seemed he was going through a 10 year mid life crisis, drinking, carousing, shaming himself and his family. But, in the last 18 years or so, he redeemed himself, became a sincere elder statesman, cared for his family through more tradgies and of course, reached out to many americans in their time of need.

It gives me hope for the alcoholic who himself is destroying his life in a similar way. But I doubt its going to take a woman to save him. More like...............

God.

Rest in peace, Senator Kennedy.

Nice blog. I'm stealing your joke. Behind every great man there's a great woman. peace

I agree. He was a great man, made greater by rising above his defects and doing good for so many.
